I've been going to Salon Daba for about a year and a half now. Amina and the crew have been so consultative and supportive since my initial inquiry. All the staff members are efficient, kind, and communicative. Questions are answered quickly via text, and their work is top tier. This was my first time coming to a braiding shop in LA and I had a great experience! I'd brought in mixed colors of braiding hair (#4/#27/#30) and added wavy hair that I'd bought in the same colors for full bora bora braids (intentionally thin braids because I didn't want them to be heavy).

The wavy hair came with wefts since it was originally intended for weaving, and they graciously cut it into bulk hair although the weave hair hadn't been the most suitable for the style in comparison to bulk hair & made their work a bit more difficult.

I felt accommodated throughout the entire experience, and there was never a moment when I felt unattended to. I had two people working on my braids as a team, sometimes alternating. When one person took a break, someone else stepped in & everyone was really nice and worked quickly. They also had snacks available, which was great because I'd come in having forgotten to eat while prepping my hair and braiding materials.

The braids themselves didn't hurt at all at any point (no holding the braid down to avoid a headache or tightness afterwards), and the braids feel firmly attached with no slippage even with my fine hair strands & minimal gel usage.

Most importantly, the braids look amazing!! They made the colors blend so well and tucked the added hair really well. Some of my favorite braids ever....more

I just had the most incredible experience at Salon Daba and I couldn’t wait to share it! I went in for Chanel braids, also known as Bora Bora, and what unfolded was a heartwarming, unforgettable adventure.

From the moment I entered, the atmosphere felt like a cozy family gathering. Though we started late in the evening, the entire team came together to work on my hair—they really went above and beyond! It felt like being back home in Africa, surrounded by all the aunties lovingly doing your hair, sharing stories, laughter, and love.

Amina, who is the owner led the team, but it was such a collaborative effort! Everyone pitched in, dancing and singing while expertly braiding my hair, creating an uplifting vibe that made me forget I was in a salon. It was like a little celebration, and I felt surrounded by warmth and positivity.

Great first experience at Salon Daba! Came in to get touch-ups on my faux locs, and was able to text with them beforehand about the service. They were greatly communicative and transparent about their offerings and pricing. Once there, I didn't wait long before being seated and the stylist re-confirmed with me to make sure I wanted my whole head and not just the front retouched. I was able to let her know that my scalp was sensitive, and requested that my roots don't be wrapped too tightly. She made sure to keep checking-in with me throughout the service, and she adjusted as needed! I immediately booked a follow-up for take down in a couple weeks and will be coming here for protective styles from now on.

First I was late, ooh so late like 40m late and then I didn't know not to park in front (only 1 hr parking), so had to go in and go back out and park on the cross street (10 hr parking). All this they handle so kindly. I got started with Victoria - who was funny and gracious (also very fast). The place is fairly small but I so appreciated that was basically quiet. Some African videos and music on the television but not a lot of people on phones or speaking loudly. There are not a lot of frills or perks - though they offer water and I recommend you bring your own lunch (plan accordingly). Also best to first wash, blow dry your hair to speed things up. These lovely Senegalese and Gambian women are respectful and get right down to business. I had knotless individual braids (mid-back/medium). I got started at 12noon and was done by 4:30. You want fancy and to see some famous folks this is not your place but you want quality service, nice people, a calm and quick experience with great braids - got to Salon Daba. I plan to go back and get instant locs with the owner...who came by and said hello....more

If you're in the Los Angeles area and you're looking for locs, head on over to Salon Daba Plus! I went in and did an instant loc session for my entire head and the results are amazing! They were very kind, professional, diligent, and communicated everything they were going to do and helped me get set up to take good care of my hair. I recommend booking a free 10-minute consultation AND an instant loc session a few weeks in advance. Their website is pretty easy to navigate and book appointments. "They even called me up and verified that I would be coming in on the days listed and made adjustments based on what I was looking to have happen. The earliest I could book my appointment was a few months out and I had to reschedule a few times, but they were very open and flexible with getting me in to get my locs done. Now for pricing I believe based on being in LA the pricing is good it’s higher than I’ve paid before for locs - (I’m from Washington DC and always went to my homegirls for context) - but definitely reasonable for some of the other prices I see online

My appt was at 1.30pm, I got there 1.35pm. And was on the washer few minutes later. I have been very skeptic starting my locs journey but I will say after leaving Salon Daba all my fears were gone. The owner Amina did my hair. I love it. She is sooo gentle 😍 and educated me on how to manage my locs before my first retwist. I was done in 3 and half hours. I also bought the wkly oil. Salon Daba is my go-to to get my locks done RIGHT. I live in Compton but it is well worth the drive and dealing with the 110 fwy to get there lol.

Once there, they treat you with the utmost respect and care as you relax in a cozy, family-like atmosphere and listen to some smooth afro-beats music.

From the pre-wash to finishing touches, they take good care of you and ensure your hair is styled exactly as you wanted. They will also offer you advice and tips on haircare between stylings.

For example, Im in my 40s with male pattern baldness creeping in on my crown. The stylist at Salon Daba, Amina, recommended Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I've been applying it to the balding area and it actually works!

Bottomline, I love this Salon and would recommend them to anyone in L.A. looking to get their locks or braids done.

This is an update to my review from 2019 and...they’re still wonderful! I just got faux locs with highlights installed and absolutely love them. Amina and her team are so skilled, fast and nice to work with. They listen to what you want and give you professional advice to help you achieve the look you’re going for. The salon is beautiful, clean and spacious with a happy atmosphere. If you haven’t tried them, you are seriously missing out.
